English

This paper examines the transformation of Hindu rituals in the age of global media, a clear example of religion’s reinvention within a networked logic. Focusing on the phenomenon of “Digital Darshan” as a ritual experience of seeing and being seen by the divine, this research explores how networked communication transfers sacredness from traditional temples to digital platforms and reconfigures ritual structure. Employing qualitative research methods, with a descriptive-explanatory approach and a case study methodology, in addition to studying Darshan, this study utilizes interpretive analysis of secondary data from reputable research and media examples. The findings reveal that Digital Darshan integrates three fundamental trends: the individualization of ritual experience, the commodification of sacredness, and the spatial expansion of the sacred within global networks. Consequently, this ritual is not only reproduced on platforms and applications but also sustained through user participation and a digital spiritual economy. The study concludes that Digital Darshan represents a new form of “networked religion,” where ritual shifts from spatial presence to global participation, and sacredness is redistributed through data and interaction.
